BOARDS & COMMITTEES

 

The following are short descriptions of the work each committee does.  If this sort of work interests you, please mark the committee(s) you are interested in.

 

____ Board of Directors                       Plan and make decisions on policy and administrative matters.

 

_____Building/Construction/Safety Committee

                                                                Plan and implement construction projects. Obtain house plans, solicit professional volunteers and the donation of building materials.  Coordinate volunteers and supervise construction of houses and other projects.  Plans & implements safety policies.  Secures materials for construction.

 

____Church Relations                         Organizes and coordinates the involvement of local churches in the mission of Habitat for Humanity.  Arrange for devotion/prayer at construction sites on Saturdays.

 

____Development                                 Assumes the leadership for implementing the development (fund-raising) policies and goals of the board of directors, and must develop a strategic plan for development efforts.

 

____ Executive Committee                  President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer that conduct the day-to-day business of the affiliate.

 

____ Family Selection                          Draft the selection criteria and application forms, screen applications, interview applicants and recommend eligible families to the Board of Directors for selection.

 

____ Family Support/Partners/Financial Training

                                                                Provide Habitat homeowners and prospective homeowners with a support system, educational opportunities such as financial training and other assistance necessary to break the poverty cycle and support their efforts to become independent.

 

____ Fund Raising/Special Events      Plan & carry out fundraising/events.

 

____Grant Writing                               Identify grant opportunities and write proposals.

 

____ Meals & Food                                Manage calendar for meals for construction volunteers on Saturdays and arrange volunteers to provide items for bake sales, special events, ect.

 

____Nominating Committee               Identify and recruit prospective directors, principal officers and committee chairpersons.

 

____Office Management                     Organizes and manages the functions of the Habitat Office space in coordination with the Executive Director/Affiliate President.

 

____Public Relations/Newsletter

                                                                Educate and inform the public of the need for adequate housing in our area and of our commitment to acting on this need.  Accomplish this by arranging public speaking engagements, communication with the media and mailings.  Produce and distribute the newsletter and other printed materials.

 

____Site Selection                                Target sites where the affiliate can build homes and present these sites. Identify and study the feasibility of existing houses for renovation, and present recommendations to the Board of Directors.

 

____Volunteer & Human Relations

                                                                Compile all interest/skills survey information.  Develop educational packets for new volunteers. Provide volunteer name lists to committees/Board as needed for staffing purposes.
